I really hope yer right, OSRF...I want Watkins to stay.

I feel that besides his 8TDs...Watkins opened many things up underneath for the other WRs to thrive and that Watkins is a KEY piece of that WR room. I'm tellin ya...IF the 49ers get Watkins...he will be a perennial ProBowler for them w/Garrapolo at QB.
Watkins adds that always present threat of a deep TD...and Shanny will use him well.

The very fact that we couldn't sign a long term contract with Joyner...means the agents want alot of money for him - which is fine...
but means now he wants big money...and for a safety over a WR???? Nah. Joyner is NOT in that class of Safetys that you pay that money to...just like Foles is NOT that type of QB to garner 2 #1s...he had a good season...that's all.

I would waaay rather have Watkins tagged and be drafting a CB or one of the young good Safetys in the draft at #23...
than having a Joyner tagged and needing a viable/experienced deep threat WR.

this was a mistake...losing a 2nd rounder for a 1yr rental. Heck, with Peters we get him at least 2 more years, maybe a 3rd with a tag...thatwas worth losing the 2nd rounder cuz 3 yrs is almost the time of owning the rights to a rookie player. BUT...the Watkins deal for that 2nd and using him 1yr???? Nope....that is a BAD deal. imo

I'm just bummed, I guess...having wanted Sammy for SO long and then we actually had him on our team...for 1 season.

UNLESS, and this is very possible, Watkins didn't fit what McVay likes or wanted from his WR ...I dunno.
But think of having that 2nd rounder this year?!!...it was a perfect spot for us to get a contributing young player.
