Some months ago I spoke loud and clear that I thought that AD was not a fit for Wade's 3-4. What does a 3-4 need with a 3 technique?
Well, as it turns out, Wade simply takes great players and adapts his D around them to maximize their abilities. And, AD went on to another stellar year.
Now comes the possibility of Suh. Another 3 technique DT. At first glance I say the same thing I said last year: where does he fit?
But clearly Wade sees things differently. He thinks; "Ah. Another GREAT DT that disrupts and plays the run and pass equally well and moves the LOS back". And then further adapts his D to fit TWO great 3 techniques. How? You're asking the wrong guy. My knee jerk reaction is at least partially by moving Brockers back to NT and Suh to the outside position.
But in the end, how can it not help to have yet another great player on the field for the D? Whatever label we might want to give him as to the exact position he'll play.
The way Phillips works I think about the most specific label we could give a trio of AD-Suh-Brockers would be: DL. 'Cause they're going to be moved all over the place depending on down, distance, and circumstance.
The Rams won't break the bank to sign Suh. And I personally think the chances of Suh becoming a Ram are less than 50/50. Because if Suh wants to maximize his market value, he'll probably have to do it somewhere else. But.....if he truly wants to come to a happier place and a winner, then he might temper his demands to fit the Rams budget. We'll know soon.
