I think they will tag Joyner if they can't reach an agreement to buy time for a long term deal.
I think they may tag Watkins IF they can get a deal done with Joyner before FA starts....for same reasons.
If they tag Joyner they will try to keep Watkins, but I don't think they will overpay for him....but can't just let him simply walk. Maybe offer him a short term contract in the 3 yr 30mil range so he can still get paid as a 27 year old free agent at the end of his deal or offer him long term deal but with escape clauses.
I was just reading some interesting market value charts on Sportrac. They don't value Sammy very high. I was shocked at how low they valued his market value.
I think Joyner is a higher priority.
If I am the Rams I franchise Joyner and transition Watkins. This allows us to keep Joyner while working on a long term deal and allows Watkins and his reps to find a contract that is suitable, If Rams choose to match great if not, then he leaves and no draft compensation except for the Compensatory pick. I do not believe the Rams will be going after many outside free agents. I believe they want to bring back several of their own
