nice, 43
think you're right
opt out type contracts for football players could be a poison pill
one can see some cases where a player in later years jwould take a different payout, but with clauses to exit.
in the case of Aaron, he'd be most likely the 2nd highest contract in nfl
that isn't worthy of exit clauses, imo
situational players in the MLB, or NBA may warrant clauses
and a team with perpetual bad results would also merit exceptions
but, with the Rams doing so well last season i believe that scenario was put aside
it may come to it that escalators in Aaron's contract may be allowed for escape clauses to free agency. IMO, he would have to meet some very high statistical thresholds, and more.
bottom line for now.
I agree
From what we know, the club has made a fat offer.
Aaron ought to take the $$.
As much as both sides would like this put behind them, neither Demoff nor Stan have high interest in making this contract the new reference point for second contracts with provisions for the player to have an opt out scenario. While Demoff with almost a decade of experience in cap, contracts, and extensions beneath him, this type of contract spells a threat to success in the short span leading up to the new stadium. It would be a surprise if they capitulate to AD
