that's really the message i heard yesterday on radio
More often than not the two sides can never come to terms in the end and you end losing the player, anyway.
Threatening to use the tag may have some negotiable terms, but a team ends up overpaying a player in many instances, and frustrates the player in trying to get that second contract.
One of the stickier points for the Rams is Donald's contract
I'm pretty sure that they'd like to get him under terms sooner than later.
However, as I understand the terms that Aaron wants in his contract are "new age." He wants to be able to opt out, or exercise certain rights to free agency in the language. It would make him one of the few in football who have that kind of terms.
The money has been there, but Donald remains in fast in wanting the language in there.
All that does it make it harder for Demoff to use the tag and explain to Donald how his future hasn't been attended, too.
Which brings us around now to Watkins, and Joyner
With the club busting a move on Peters, and not knowing the balance of draft stock to work from, the Rams have a distinct issue facing them
The trifecta of working Donald, Joyner, and Watkins into their budget doesn't bode well for getting done much before the new season begins.
What's left to acquire some form of help should both Joyner and Watkins find employment elsewhere?
Perhaps the folks who say let Watkins slip away win. McVay may try to field this offense less the former Bill. Wade, otoh, has to not only rebuild the CBs corps, but figure out the edge rushers, too. The absence of Joyner in the secondary may just be too much to overcome for Wade.
Again, I'd like to see these guys signed to terms before the flood gates open. It may well be that renting Watkins for a 2nd rounder is what history will show.
For all my urgency to not use the tag at this point? Or using on Sammy?
Gone
From all reports, it'll be Joyner to stay
