Also I wish I had more information on each play. Time, down, distance to first down, are they trying to use clock, etc.
Picture 1 - does look like Watkins is open. But so does the receiver in the left flats. Why was it incomplete? Did Higbee drop it? Was it a bad pass? On some plays more than one guy is open and the QB can't throw to them all. (Just a side note, would Watkins have dropped any of these had the ball been thrown to him?) I played QB in HS and in lots of leagues and from the comfort of my easy chair, I agree with you in that I wonder why Goff didn't go to the left side of the field as he has the defensive player closer to the line of scrimmage turned around and caught between two receivers.
Picture 2 - sorry I can't tell where the ball is on this. Is the defender closest to Watkins starting to move up field? Short to Gurley was a very effective play for us this season. Was that one dropped or poorly thrown?
Picture 3 - Depending on how Goff throws to Watkins in this one it could be a hospital ball if he floats it at all. Watkins does have a step on his guy. He's running about 10 yards every second. It is going to take the ball a couple of seconds to get there and by then Watkins will be inside the 25, maybe to the 20. Depending on recognition, the safety is probably going to be able get there at the same time. I think for this play to work best, Goff should already have thrown the ball. But again, I'm just looking at a still. Also did Woods drop it or was it a bad pass?
Picture 4 - Watkins does look open on a nice pick by the WR. But it is virtually the same coverage on both sides of the field. Could the DBs on Woods be closing more than the ones on Watkins because Goff is squared up toward Woods and in the act of throwing? If Goff was about to throw to Watkins would the DBs closer to him be closing just as fast? Did Woods drop it or was it a bad throw?
