The first couple of years in the league had Watkins playing closer to the line. I remember that only Randall Cobb was more effective at the quick hitters according to KC Joyner. The NFL caught up to that and made players like Cobb, Austen, Harvin less valuable.
Buffalo shifted and Watkins became valuable down the field which shows he is well rounded. I do believe his foot injuries limit what he is capable of doing. He is a very good straight line guy but is not crisp when using the inside of the field.
I was not impressed with his play this year. I don't know if his foot cut down on his willingness to improvise when a play broke down but he wasn't GOOD in adapting. Certainly not what I saw in Buffalo.
