That's not really franchise tag money

43 suggested a contract that was "10 million per". A 4-year, $40M contract perhaps?

The franchise tag for a safety this year is $10.896M this year ... but it will surely go up over the course of that 4-year deal.

Historically this is the franchise tag value for a safety (with all values from nfl.com)

2014 $8.433M
2015 $9.6M
2016 $10.6M
2017 $10.806M
2018 $10.896M

The increases from year-to-year are 13.8%, 10.4%, 1.94%, and .83%.

I can't find tag numbers past 2018, but even if they only go up 1.5% a year this is where they'd by:

2019 $11.059M
2020 $11.225M
2021 $11.394M

From my perspective I'd consider a 4-year 'franchise tag deal' to be $44.574M. If the Rams can sign Joyner for 4 yrs/$40M I'm good with that ...
