How do you really describe the Cheatriots run? Dynasty or Travesty? All the cheating and trying to get around the rules is not something to proud of IMO. If the league has to "burn the evidence" to cover it up, you know it must have been so bad that it could have brought down the NFL. Lawsuits would have put the league in bankruptcy. If those tapes were leaked or released, what would have happened? We will never know because they were BURNED. BURNED!! That tells me all I need to know.
All the players, coaches and fans that got "screwed" by the Cheatriots and the commish is a travesty. The Rams, Eagles and Panthers can all claim they were robbed. How much more cheating was NOT discovered or made public? We will never know for sure. It's reminiscent of the Black Sox scandal back in the day yet worse IMO.
The cheating was exposed many years ago but they still keep winning. Why? One penalty yesterday against the Jags? Are they really that good or is the league "helping" them? It seems there is always controversy in their big wins. Always. Coincidence?
Why would the league "help" them? That's the question. Maybe to make them seem like all the cheating didn't really help them win all those SB's. If the Pats would have not been so dominate after the cheating\taping was exposed, it would have been obvious how they "won" setting up the league for more scrutiny and lawsuits. It also would have given the NFL a "black eye" that they might not have recovered from. By "helping" them win so much it gives the perception that they really are/were "that good" and didn't need to cheat or that the cheating was a minor thing that didn't contribute to all the SB's.
IMO, by the league BURNING the evidence, there will always be a debate and controversy over them. What a shame.
Nice post, Ramdude. I certainly know the Patriots cheat, a lot, over decades, in many ways, and it has helped them a ton.
Personally, I am less convinced that refs have been “instructed” to favor the Pats. I think this would be much much harder to coverup and would be too risky to attempt.
I believe that the Pats are exceptionally good at bending the game rules and also coaching their players how to bend the rules without getting caught.
I just don’t believe the NFL actively pressures its refs to favor the Pats. Maybe, but I doubt it. All it would take is one ref to blow the whistle and blow up the league.
But videotaping practices, stealing signals, stealing playbooks, deflating balls, jamming headsets..yes, I believe the Pats try very hard to cheat and have no qualms about doing so.
