Never
It is not going to happen.
Period.
As I have explained, in a 3-4 the OLBers are de facto DEs. They do swap off some coverage but not the kind of coverage that a 4-3 OLBer has
AO does not possess the skills needed to be "moved outside"
He's too small, does not have the pass rush techniques needed.
The best-case scenario is that he gets moved to MO backer (Barron's spot) which is akin to a stacked WILL backer in a 4-3 defense.
That is if we did find a MIKE that can get off blocks and make tackles, and so on.
AO does have skills as a 4-3 OLBer, he could be All-pro in that position
Now, in nickle, he;s been on of the 2 ILBers since his rookie year, and there, in coverage he can do some good things. ANd he does that now as a nickle ILBer
But he will not be moved to the "outside"
I don't think he should be exclusively outside. As I said before the season started, I believe he should be a "weapon as opposed to having a designated spot". Situational positioning is right in his skill set.
Line him up wherever the scheme calls for. Use him on delayed blitzes inside. Use him as a layered outside rusher. Use him inside on forward plays.
AO is a playmaker and plays like a play maker. Just send him forwards and sideways. This is why I say that they need a vocal guy who can diagnose quickly is key. It puts everyone, including AO in a position to succeed.
