Ogletree is the D captain. He is the one to whom the defensive formation is communicated and then he makes the call on the field to the other players. He is the one that also reads O adjustments and calls out corresponding D adjustments.
The question is: can that be done from the OLB position?
The other problem for me with moving Ogletree to an outside LB position is that it doesn't take advantage of his ability to defend sideline to sideline. It essentially cuts his range down to 1/2 the field.
It also has him going up against OTs when he's rushing.
I just don't know if, in a 3-4 scheme, OLB is his position.
Ogletree is the default captain. He is nothing short of a liability in reading adjustments. His reads are flat wrong at a high rate. His vocalising his reads are slow.
AO is so easily manipulated it drives me insane. He can be set up throughout the game. He is absolutely bad at diagnosing draw plays and below average in his response in seeing a slow developing screen. Teams use his athleticism and low football IQ against him. His pathing is poor due to his confusion.
His largest issue is solely based on his poor football smarts. He is a split second slower than any MLB should be. You can see his brain working in his movements and footing on the field. The more variables that enter into play the more he commits. If things start to going in a play different to what he's selling out for he can be blocked up by a push or a hip check. He is just not a guy that can organically flow. A good MLB needs to read and react like water.
This is just my take of his ability to read a play and lead a defense. This isn't a breakdown of anything else.
I want everyone to understand that I like AO. I think he absolutely needs to have some responsibility taken to him to ease his brain. He needs a smart captain to set him up and call the shot. Rev that man up and tell him to go. Use his athleticism. Put him and the team in a position to succeed. I also think that he would be a great edge rusher. That would use his high tackling in his favor on design rushes.
