Watkins underwhelmed this year. I think everybody would agree with that statement.
Some, including yours truly, have questioned his “want to” on some deeper passes. Two TD catches missed in the playoff game alone.
McVay’s O is always gonna be a spread it around type. Therefore, Watkins would never be getting his 10-15 targets in it.
I expect an increased emphasis on TE targets this year, adding one, if not two more receivers needing targets. This will further reduce Watkins opportunities.
Another speedy WR could be a legit deep threat to keep D’s honest. And for millions less than Watkins would cost.
Geez. Add all this up and one has to really think before signing a pricey extension for Watkins, at least in my mind.
I’m convinced that McVay will field a potent O this year either with or without Watkins.
