As I think about how McVay's offense works, and where the targets were, I don't think we need a "#1 WR" that is meant to be a deep threat.
Any good team needs a Watkins or DeSean Jackson or the equivalent. So far McV has not managed an offense that DIDN'T have a guy like that, so we don't actually know if he has the same offense without a guy like that.
In any event you might as well say of Gurley, you don;t need a high caliber elite RB to win in the NFL.
Yeah true but you are still better off if you have one.
Whether it's Watkins or someone else, yes, you do need a high caliber WR in the mix. All teams do. They're all better with one than without one.
The Rams already have a #1 WR type---Woods---(I don't equate "#1 WR" with "elite physical speciman at WR"
but then adding a top notch deep threat to that is a good thing.
I can manage just fine without finding a bag full of 10s of thousands of dollars, but if I did find such a thing, I wouldn't throw it away either.
Again that's whether it's Watkins or someone else who fits that description.
The only reason most teams don't have a guy like that is that guys like that are not that common.
