the conversations that we've had on this board about Goff and now this thread on Kupp.
I get that people have different views on these players, and that's fine. Some of it amazes me a little, but that doesn't mean any of it's invalid. Just that I don't understand.
I think, though, that it would help me if I understood what the standards are for forming opinions, or for making declarations.
By any objective measure, these two young players are outperforming almost all players of their age and experience. Could we all agree on that?
And by any objective measure, there are a few flaws that can be picked at.
So when people express reservations and dissatisfaction, is it a belief that they have already divined some fatal flaws in their game that will never be fixed?
It's not like either of them is a Greg Robinson or something. They aren't falling flat on their face. Goff has made significant improvement from last year. Kupp is maybe the best rookie receiver in the league this year.
Is there a belief already that these guys have stopped improving and can't get any better? What's the basis for that?
Is it just that some people don't think these players are good enough
right now to win a Super Bowl this year? Well, it's certainly possible that they aren't, but man, that's a pretty high standard to hold for a rookie and a 2nd year guy.
It's just, when I think about it, I really can't understand why every single Ram fan isn't thrilled with what we've got going here. With the team, and with these young talents. It's downright bewildering.
Is there another team out there that would turn their nose up at Goff or Kupp if the Rams cut them tomorrow? Or offered them up for a song and dance trade? Wouldn't almost every team in the league be scrambling to get their hands on these two? Certainly Kupp could help any receiving corp. And in the case of Goff, maybe except for a couple of teams who think they already have their young QB?
Ok, that's it. I'm not calling anyone else wrong. But I admit I'm puzzled.
