I disagree with your narrative there. I think it's too reductive and fails to account for some things.
But that's neither here nor there for the moment.
On Snead.
Snead never was in trouble. And Demoff is not stupid, he knew this team had a core of talent. In December when Fisher was fired Demoff made some noise about looking at personnel and administration---basically, Snead and himself--but by January, before the McVay interview, he was saying that this was not a rebuild and that their job was to maximize the talent they had. Plus Snead was an important part of the head coach search. So what it looks like is that they did review personnel and come to positive conclusions. '
To me, it was always only a fan thing that Snead was in trouble.
There was a time when Snead was in some trouble. Snead said himself that he was thankful that Kroenke and Demoff determined that there were issues that weren't on him and decided to keep him on. .
IN DECEMBER, when Fisher was fired, Demoff made it clear that both administration (meaning, Demoff himself) and personnel (Snead) were under review.
Well by JANUARY, they obviously had done their review and the entire tune changed. This was before they even interviewed McVay. At that point Demoff said it was not a rebuild. He said that, remember, before they even met McVay. That means 2 things. One was that he was directly expressing confidence in personnel. Another was that he was dictating, in advance, the approach to team building they were going to take, and that was before interviewing a coach, let alone hiring one. No coach was going to come in and start over---it was a publicly stated condition of the job that whoever it was they hired was NOT going to do things that way (ie not going to start over). That is basically telling your next coach, in advance, this guy is your GM.
That is an awful lot to be doing in public in early January if your're GM really were in trouble. In fact if Demoff were saying those things, those things would be nonsensical if Snead really were in trouble.
Whatever it is they thought in December, it got resolved before Demoff spoke out in early January.
