That to me showed his smarts. It wasn't to clean house for purposes of cleaning house.

He's probably too young to have too many of "his guys" but it was refreshing to see the type of staff he put together - including Bones.

It was like when Vermeil was here and he started collecting the old head coaches (Carson, Hanifan, White, Saunders etc).

Yeah I agree it was smart.

What a lot of people miss I think with McVay is how much continuity contributed to this year. Yes he renovated the offense but then he also inherited Goff and Gurley. Imagine if he inherited nothing.

Demoff declared in January, before even interviewing McVay, that this was not a rebuild.

Continuity matters. It's not just the 3 coaches, it's Snead, and players too of course. Even presumably minor players like Hager and Westbrooks contributed to the win yesterday. Another example: it's not just Fassell, it's Fassell plus Zuerlein plus Hekker plus Cooper, and lots of coverage guys and blockers too, like Littleton who was a 2016 UDFA and has shown up on special teams this season.

I don't think I have ever seen a 1-year turnaround where it wasn't the case that the new coach inherits a large pool of talent. If you want examples, compare Harbaugh in 2012, who inherited a big chunk of talent, to Carroll in 2010, who inherited basically nothing worth keeping. It took Harbaugh one year to win and Carroll three.
