Well I don;t think there's any reason to assume that he just started doing that. I assume he had the ability to audible all along, was coached to do it all along, and has been doing it all along. This is just the first big "public" moment where they talked about him doing it.
And it's not surprising that a young qb would be allowed or actually assigned to audible like that. We know Bradford was doing it as a rookie in 2010.
When McVay talks about it, he makes it clear that the qb is regularly set up with options on a play so he can audible into and out of plays.
If Bradford could do that as a rookie Goff can do it in his 2nd year, you would think.
