But Whitworth did not just show up at our door....he was a piece of the culture that McVay wanted to bring in his type culture, and the play you described is a good example....the players are in all the way with this coaches plan, vision and culture....Gurly may have been banged up some last year, his reads were bad, but IMO a whole lot of that was started through frustration which was brought about by Fishers choice of OC, Line coach, and yes the players he chose.
Fishers team played exactly how Fish wanted them to play....not saying Fisher liked losing, but his coaching style totally enabled the fact....McVays style demands the exact opposite. He never says forget the last game, he says move on and improve....can't improve if you set in stone to forget and go forward.....In Fishers world they did move forward but farther into a cesspool....
Players always follow the words of the HC....they did with Fisher....they are doing now with McVay.....but with McVay there is a real sense of understanding going on....not just zombies on the way to nowplace.....Demanding excellence comes from the top dog, teaching fundamentals as well.....IMO Gurly is a better Gurly than when he came into the league....IMO it's because he is being taught actual things to improve his game. Fisher and his group simply could not progress a single sole on that team. The staff used the natural abilites and stayed static with improvement...across the board.....
