Re: Protesting

This is the point I'm attempting to make.
The issue is not guilt or innocence. Elliott may be a choir boy.
The issue is that a negotiated CBA gave Goodell the right to do what he did as far as discipline.

The NFL gave up some things and the Union gave up some things to come to a CBA.

And that's why this entire thing is so distasteful to me.
And it's also why these Anthem protests are disgusting to me and must be stopped. What is it exactly that they are protesting and using NFL games as a free platform? It is that they want some undefined vision of "fairness" that they hold, outside of law and contracts, to be imposed on other people. And the irony of it is that these players are very well to do men, the least of them making $10,000 per WEEK!! They act as though they are working for one of Carngie's steel mills in the 20's and being treated like animals and barely surviving a subsistance wage.

Rock you may be out of your depth here on the issue. Our judicial system and the litigiousness of our society are part and parcel of the freedoms we celebrate and struggle to maintain. Unfortunately freedoms are not unilateral or guaranteed to all. Sort of a pay to play in actuality.

Think about that as you judge or criticize millionaires that can play and have that platform. Think about all those who lack it. You have to care about these things and be informed. Simply put whether you are able to play or not you need only have skin in the game to begin the process of trying to comprehend the bigger picture. What skin (no pun intended) do these players who protest have in the game? Is it really unreasonable that they can speak to a broader concern or depth than others who do not share their experience or discomfort. If the flag really defines that spirit of justice and fairness for all then why are so many still disenfranchised? That is a concern that some believe needs more affirmation and focus than a tradition.

The cameras continue to roll and instead of the focus on the flag it is panning the field. Why? To make a statement? To show unity and a lack of discord? To celebrate diversity? If all eyes are on you, what do you do? How do you choose to speak and use your voice? Again the cameras are on the players. The players are not controlling the cameras.

We do not comprehend what we can’t relate to. I only can say that legalities and contracts are to be litigated and challenged. Protest are a right and there is no universal standard for protest nor is there any compulsion that is justifiable to undermine that right in a free society that wants to claim justice and fairness as its goal. You point out well that these players are rich and privileged: They are also doing so peacefully. I think many know what they are drawing attention to. The controversy is who really cares?

I think a person has to care to care and income or status should have no bearing. A peaceful demonstration should be lauded and applauded over the alternatives.
