In hypothetical #1, the Total amount of the contract was reduced by 6m, so that is the amount that is pro-rated as a bonus spread Out over 4 years? But the rams would take the whole 6m hit in year one?
Similarly, in hypothetical #2, total amount is reduced by 3 m, so Rams take that as the hit in year one?

Total reduction of overall value of contract= amount of cap hit rams would take.
If it’s your own player restructuring, you can spread out the cap hit over a few years, but if it’s for the purpose of a trade, the cap hit is all accelerated so it hits the “trading away” team all in year one?
That actually applies anytime a player is traded. Any remaining pro-rated amounts in the contract are accelerated to that years cap.
