In general. He has run good routes (on occasion) and he has been open (on occasion) but those things are proportionate to the expectations. I'd also go so far as to say that in my opinion those things have not even been the norm during games where he's not in the game plan early on.
and I have seen him open a lot and he runs good routes, crisp cuts and gets open deep. Sure there are times he's covered, but Kupp is covered some and Woods is covered some.
What I see happening is a young QB who is good and getting better is not able to see the full field and does not have confidence to take deeper shots. That's fine, he's been moving the ball, but when he does go deep to Watkins for every good pass there are several bad ones.
Goff has plenty of time, he does not have rushers in his face are coming from edges like past few years, he's just not quite to the point where he will take a shot to Watkins even when he's clearly open.
Watkins does not create separation on plays that are coming to him. That's without question.What has he done to prove to his QB that he will get open? He's disinterested in helping his qb out when the play isn't called for him, Would you trust him? Not me. Not until he's proved it. He and Goff are rarely on the same page. He's the ONLY one that we can say that about. That means that it's up to Watkins or the staff to call plays that put the two in a position to succeed.
He's completely one dimensional thus far and that one dimension doesn't work. I'm not a hater. I want a super star WR. He's not that guy this year for whatever reason. He's not what his billing says. When he shows it i'll be his biggest supporter.
