Rams really had to make the trade if they ever hoped to get a Franchise QB. It is not often that you have a chance to even go and get one of those guys. Philly got lucky too because Cleveland is so clueless. When don't have a franchise QB and get a chance to get one you have to go for it and the Rams did so I really give them a lot of credit for making such a bold move.
Going into the draft many of the so called experts did not see the draft as strong as the previous year with Winston and Marrota but turns out this draft was superior. We had 2 good choices in Wentz and Goff with both bringing something different. Goff has the disadvantage of playing in a spread offense and then a brain dead Fisher offense so he is behind Wentz who is playing great. But Goff is playing really good and you know he is going to be a lot better and is 2 years younger. It looks like both QB are going to be really good and when you add Prescott it turns out that it was a really strong draft.
Rams accomplished their goal of getting a franchise QB and it will be interesting to see how good he becomes. Marino and Kelly went in the same draft and while Marino was better and went later I am sure Buffalo never regretted drafting Jim Kelly. Goff is ours now and I am excited about him and happy with the pick. And who knows he may even end up being better than Wentz it is still way too early to tell that for sure.
Biggest move up to #1 ever FOR A QB (PHI went to #2, also gave up a lot, in two stages, including players):
PHI & HOU may have made slightly bigger moves (by 1-2 picks?), also to #1, but for a WR (Irving Fryar) & RB (Earl Campbell), respectively.
