According to Overthecap.com, his dead money cap amount for this year is $19,977,116. It’s saying that they would cost them $5M on the cap if they traded him now.
This tells me that his $5M roster bonus next year is guaranteed.
A trade would be very hard to do since they have less than $1M in current cap space. They can’t afford to take a $5M hit.
It's a 5 M hit in 2017 if they trade him.
Not sure about this but I think that's because the 2018 roster bonus is guaranteed, and if they trade him in 2017 the Rams immediately take the hit for that guaranrteed money. It's similar in some ways to Buffalo taking a 5+ M cap hit in 2017 for trading Watkins (though I don't know off the top of my head what accounts for that 5 M).
So the argument is, if you have to keep TA for 2017...then use him. He scored 9 offensive TDs in 2015, so we know he can create explosive plays. So program some of those in. You have him, use him.
