Yeah, the roster bonus is a sunk cost. It was paid.
I guess it's just a matter of what's worth more- (a) what you can get back in a trade (I'd be shocked if it was higher than a 5th round pick) and freeing up roster space for Reynolds/Thomas to play more or (b) keeping him the rest of the year and utilizing him as they have been. They have eight 2018 draft picks but are missing a 2nd. Maybe adding a 9th selection- and presumably a 6th selection on day three- helps them ultimately recoup the 2nd they gave up for Watkins.
I do agree he has some value in staying but I don't think it's a done deal the team feels that way and that they wouldn't be enticed by a trade. Of course then again maybe they could trade him after this season ends, but I think that's less likely. A team willing to deal for him would be someone that's a contender and has a hole at WR/PR.
I think that you're really onto something with your point about freeing up roster space (and playing time) for Reynolds/Thomas should Tavon be traded, 93.
I think that that has great value in itself. I've tried to make that point in the past several times, but with some it doesn't seem to resonate.
This WR corps could become even more effective without Decoy Man.
