But we don't all trade time for a shorter life expectancy.
So let's look at other factors beyond the "life expectancy" one for most players feel that the compensation is commensurate with the threat..
I agree with a lot of that. Football is a choice and a privilege that most don't get.
But your last line nails the point. It's still dangerous. Everyone knows it. And that knowledge is increasing daily.
Also, careers are short.
I seriously doubt there is a point where you say, "$10M is enough to risk my life; so I'll leave $5M on the table!" I'm pretty sure most will think, "I'm risking my life, if I can get $15M, I'm getting $15M."
Your question is good and touches on my overall points.
How can someone judge another as greedy without knowing their rationale, their heart and motives, their current plans, their future plans, etc.? What if he's trying to retire in 3 years ala Chris Borland?
We know none of those things. But to judge, I'd need to know all of those things.
IMO, it's just not right to make that judgment at all. Others can do it but I just don't do that. Unless I was really up close and personal...I don't believe it's fair to make those types of assessments from a great distance.
Secondly, he's not doing anything that is atypical of humans in general. If I were to judge him as greedy, I would be judging humans as a whole as greedy.
