I agree that he can be effective on jet sweeps and quick outs and such. But the O-line has to be solid and allow him to slip through at the line of scrimmage (or release and block downfield depending on how creative we get), and I've seen little indication that this line can do it with any reliability. I'm optimistic because I think Tavon's abilities were wasted by bad scheming, but I'm willing to change my mind on that and point my finger at the O line, if they're a sieve and he keeps getting hit 3 yards behind the LOS, .08 seconds after touching the ball.
He averaged 8.3 a carry in 2015 on 52 carries. They were not all Jet sweeps etc.
Some of this just doesn't seem that hard to me. First, as you keep saying, use him more like they did when he was VERY successful as a runner. Glad to hear McVay essentially echo that. Second - YES! - use him in the backfield. Obviously, he's not built to be a 20-carry guy. But 8-10 carries/catches out of the backfield per game? Would love to see it.
