The Kupp thing is really typical NFL: regret for the obvious

August 25, 2017 06:01AM
The NFL is so formula oriented when it comes to drafting, that teams forgo obvious talent and production in favor of a guy with the right HWS measurements.

Even before the draft Cooper Kupp was spoken of as probably the most polished WR in the draft....bar none.
Heck he was even 6'2", 205 lbs., good enough athletically that he was a Punt returner. BUT.....he only ran about 4.6. (faster than Jerry Rice).

Forget that he was a catching machine that actually got better going against better competition.
Forget that he re-wrote the record books.
Forget that he could run any route.....perfectly.

He just didn't fit the NFL HWS standards. So he drops to the Rams in the 3rd round.

Now....out of all the WRs taken I'm not sure anyone has received more positive hype that Cooper Kupp. To my knowledge he has performed during the preseason better than any other rookie WR.

Think those guys drafting ahead of the Rams are having regret? Some probably are already.

Forget the HWS formula. Draft the player who plays football the best. That's pretty much what NE does.
