Remember the scene in "Miracle" when Coach Brooks asks the doctor if one of his players can hurt his injury any 'worse' by playing? When the Doctor says "No" Coach Brooks then proceeds to go into the locker room and shame the injured player into getting back on the ice.
Well... same idea but with drugs. If it's just 'pain'... and complicating the injury isn't a factor... Mr. Hypodermic to the rescue.

I'm with you on the painkillers in a real game, but not in preseason
Groins injuries do require time to heal. You think it feels good and then you try and run and it hurts like hell. At least its still summer time. They heal much quicker in warm/hot weather.
