After the suspension but with the way McVay has been talking about him it sure seems like they have plans for him.
Maybe McVay needs him, more than wants him, FG.
McVay wants and needs a deep threat. Tavon doesn't look like he's it.
Reynolds is a rookie and currently nursing a hamstring.
None of our other likely keepers look like true deep threats.
Sooooo...
By a process of elimination McVay finds that he needs to accommodate Thomas a little bit. Okay, more than a little bit.
For at least this first season. Lol.
That's my theory, anyway.
That's our situation a suspended 6th round pick holds the key to opening up our offense.
Not a religious man but I feel the need for prayer. LOL
Over 50 years of this still can't believe it.
Well I think all that's exaggerated myself.
I dont think the fact that Thomas was suspended means anything in terms of real analysis of what he brings. So I don't put it like you. Instead I go "hmm looks like Thomas is coming around as a good player, too bad he will miss 4 games."
The key to an offense, even this offense, is not its deep threat. There have been good offenses without a dedicated deep threat. You don't need a dedicated deep threat role player to throw long. You can set up a deep threat by using play action and scheming a guy open. If Thomas is a good dedicated deep threat role player, that's good and it helps, but it is not the be all and end all.
Plus again for me the fact that he is suspended does not enter into my ideas of him at all. He's good or he's not. If he is then there's no asterisk for the suspension. Yeah it's too bad he will miss 4 games but then as I said that is not the end of the world.
IF this offense absolutely needs a dedicated deep threat role player or it's doomed, then it's not a very good offensive scheme in the first place.
