court decisions (at least federal courts and up) are written decisions. The merits of an opinion by the court are out there for any and all to see.
The necessity of personal experience here is a false test. That is like saying what is your personal experience with the Civil War, not what you heard or read or seen on TV as a prerequisite to have an opinion on the merits of the war.
