I had come around to thinking that Thomas would stick and become a legit deep threat along with Reynolds.
Just for perspective, Thomas was competing for a 5th or 6th WR slot. So this is not the end of the world.
Now, he's really in a tough spot. He must absolutely, positively impress the heck out of the coaches to even hope to stick around this season. Drops are out of the question, now, for example.
Good conditioning, good attitude, know that playbook backwards and forwards, and not a hint of a ped problem are the minimum requirements I would think.
Good luck to the kid...
Again, I always appreciate your attitude and perspective, my friend.
He wasn't in an accident or a victim of circumstance. He made a clear and conscious decision and will now accept the results.
Sometimes, you only get one shot. No one owes you a second chance. Spend your currency wisely.
Sorry, I don't "wish him luck". This part of the business has nothing to do with luck. Even if he makes it back, this is a mark that will always stain because it speaks to your commitment. Hopefully he learns from it (and I know this is what you meant...) but I can't just cheer for him to come back.
I'm an old school kinda guy myself, OG, so I hear ya, believe me.
You know, the punishment should fit the crime, responsibility needs to be taken for actions, etc?
But dang! On the scale of crimes against humanity, taking peds is on the rather low end, imo. Not that I don't think he deserves the suspension, mind you.
I would just hate to see a promising rookie blow a once in a lifetime opportunity over something so silly.
Don't know about you, but I've pulled some stupid stuff in my youth yet got away with it. Not drugs, just stupid high risk, low reward decisions. Really dumb.
Thomas sounds like a try hard good kid with talent to me. Much more forgivable than a girlfriend beater, for example.
Hope he survives this. Maybe I'm being a sap, but I'm hoping for a happy ending for Thomas.
