... would have done with the Rams last year? With Fish and Co?
And how do you suppose Goff would have performed in Dallas? With Garrett? With a real, bonafide NFL offensive coordinator? With Wade Wilson? With an honest-to-goodness real NFL offensive line?
Please!
This in-a-vacuum hammering of Goff that some people do around here just gets so flipping old!
Hi old friend. I happen to think a lot of Goff's performance in 2016 WAS Goff, or at least his status as an especially green Air Raid qb adjusting to the pros. I say that and I am not hammering the guy...I am a Goff believer. I just think a lot of what we saw with Goff, was
Goff...not he in himself intrinsically, but Goff as a rookie.
In Dallas, Prescott was actually in an offense that was similar to his college system. He had a developed veteran OL, a top running game, and some first-class veteran weapons.
I don;t think it simply all reduces to coaching either way, and in fact I have heard rumbles from commentators saying Weinke did better than he was generally credited for.
But yeah in LA it was a lot of things, including coaching in the mix, but also a line that regressed, weapons nowhere near like Dallas, a missing running game, AND Goff himself.
I don't think it reduces to one "cause." But certainly one factor in all of that is that Goff was unusually green...as I said, pretty much, to date there is no college Air Raid qb who has become a solid regular starter in the pros. Even Foles fell back to the back rows once he had to master a pro style system in St. Louis after leaving a spread under Kelly in Phil. That's not said btw to claim Goff can't make it (I think he WILL make it) but that going from the Air Raid to the pros is an unusually wide ditch to jump compared to most.
