is it really that cut and dry
was last season just frustration or is he a loose cannon? What about the locker room dynamics and a new coach in town?
you need a sucka that will back a truck up if you trade him - Washington? Pittsburgh (not their style I know but I know they would love to have him), Denver, Dallas, Tampa?
If Rams I'm listening... and I want quality players in exchange in addition to draft choices
... I think you're exactly right. Can you imagine the haul they could potentially get for AD, not to mention the huge dollars not spent on him they'd be able to allocate elsewhere? Not saying it'd be easy, obviously. I imagine bidding would START at a premium young player AND a 1st-round pick. And you'd hate for word to get around that the Rams were "shopping" Donald, even if they were merely "listening." But unless the braintrust thinks they're on the verge of a breakthru, and maybe even then, it'd be irresponsible not to see whether a monster trade package might be possible.
Well actually IMO it would be irresponsible to EXPLORE that possibility.
They have openly said that they want him and are open to a high-end, expensive extension.
Appearing two-faced about that would probably backfire.
All you need is one GM who thinks, this is easy, all I have to do is expose the Rams interest in a trade and it undermines negotiations with Donald, which makes a trade that much more certain.
If they openly are saying they want him, it looks bad to sneakily shop him. As a rule in things like this, if you have to hide it, then, it's probably not a good idea to do it. Plus as I said all you need is one tricky GM who says "I can reveal that they're shopping him because that would make a trade more likely."
....
... would be toast in re trust around the league.
