Don't you think the overall best interests of the team are to field an offense and defense with the most talented players? You value the binding nature of the contract and the short-term value it brings by underpaying someone like Donald more than you value keeping that productive person in your employment long-term by negotiating an extension now. Obviously, you undervalue someone like Donald because he is not a skill player on offense. That's just your bias, but you need quality players on the other side of the ball to counter Brady, Roethleisberger, Ryan and others. You need to see the importance of that.
Doesn't matter what business you are in, if you as an owner or manager create an atmosphere among your employees of "we-got-you-by-the-balls" for the next X years, then your employees will only be committed to their contract and not to the long term success of the business.
