Funny.
Wentz had a good 1st year, no doubt. But, as always happens, as tape on him pile up as the year went on the D's figured some things out. And then, it wasn't quite so easy.
Plus, because he's so big and athletic, he saved a lot of downs and plays with his legs (good for him, that certainly isn't a bad thing).
But, starting last year analysts had some real issues with his quickness to leave the pocket, and his footwork, and his mechanics. And it got worse as the year went on.
Now there is a long chain of how inaccurate and inconsistent Wentz has been all throughout the OTAs. When you're way long one time, and way short the next time, it's almost for sure the mechanics and not an issue of "timing" with the Receivers.
But speak this way about Goff, and Bust Birds show up in droves.
Fact is, they are both young QBs, with different attributes, and their games will be different. The are just developing, and development is uneven. By the end of 2017 we're going to have a much better idea of the directions these guys are going. They both seem to be good guys with lots of talent. I hope they both have good long, productive careers.
But history has proven that in the long run, the pocket passer is going to win more championships and have a longer career than the QBs who get much/most of their highlights by means of their legs. The NFL game is built for passing and pocket passers. Even the rules favor that since his protection decreases the second a QB pulls the ball down to scramble, and especially when he runs a read-option, because he becomes judged as a Running Back and the defense is allowed to deal with him in that way. The one caveat being the feet first side where he is "giving himself up".
