What Polian says about Goff (in comparing the 3 2nd year qbs):
"Now let's look at these guys. Goff is in a tough situation. He got on the field late, struggled greatly. New offense, so he's back to square one."
Those are his exact words. The phrase "back to square one" refers specifically to having to learn a new offense. Polian wasn't saying he is in every respect back to square one, just in terms of learning a new offense (in comparison to Prescott and Wentz).
To me the debate is, is he right? Is Goff back to square one because (unlike the other 2) he has to learn a new offense?
IMO? In a lot of respects yes. In many respects no. Goff learned a lot from playing last year. I think that experience matters. And yes he has to learn a new system, but that system that deliberately (unlike MOST teams in the NFL) sets things up to be easier on the qb.
So no he's not in the same situation as Prescott, he is in the same system with the same weapons and playing with the same (good, veteran) personnel.
I personally don't think it's that bad. I get Polian's point but still.
