Rams had that stuff on their board on the video where they showed the "nerd nest" under the title of "explosiveness" with things like YIA, YAC, etc. The broken and missed tackles are stats where he really stood out among this class and probably why they coveted him, alongside the obvious fit for the scheme.
McVay wanted guys who were elusive or could get yards after the catch, along with the precise routes and hands we all knew he wanted. There was a clear directive on that with his first two choices in this draft.
Now we get to wait and see whether that approach bears fruit. It just might.
-Everett was ranked second in yards after the catch over the past two seasons while still ranking 19th in 2014 on only 17 receptions.
-In 2016, there were five tight ends to have more receptions than Everett and he still forced 17 more missed tackles than the next closest three.
-The Rams’ receivers and tight ends combined for 26 missed tackles in 2016.
-Of the 1,593 receptions yards Everett had in three seasons at South Alabama, 63.5 percent of those have come after the catch.
