First, let me say that I love having AD as a Ram. Just love it.
Nothing like having an elite player on the field, is there? One that the opponent just can't stop despite special gameplanning?
However...
I hope that he's gonna be reasonable about his contract demands. No doubt he deserves to be paid as the best DT in the game.
But, how high is "up"? I mean, there is some point in the salary stratosphere beyond which the Rams should not go. Because it would result in a net loss for the team.
You know, the "we, not me" thing?
I don't know where that point is, but Demoff better know it and better not cross it. So, laram has a point. There are ways and means of keeping AD as a Ram through '20 without an unaffordable extension, if absolutely necessary.
I hope for a win-win contract extension solution, of course. But let's don't lose sight of the fact that the overall team comes first.
Donald is considered the best defensive player in the league by many.....we're not getting away with cheap.
People don't realize how much he effects the game becuse he "is just a DT" the dude is an absolute monster.
This is what happens when a superstar emerges on a team, eventually you have to pay the price. Fortunately due to the CBA we have him locked up for 5 years at a very reasonable rate.
IMO though, the Rams would be wise to wait a lil longer to see how he fits in this new defense before they throw $100 mil at him...fortunately they have him locked up for the next two years before they have to pay him big money.
Donald is very likely to cost even more if the Rams wait.
With 2 years left, the Rams have some leverage. Donald knows that he is stuck in LA for 2 years if the Rams want to hold onto him. He has to play, and risk injury, and that could cost him all his money.
The Rams should be able to sign Donald for a discount now. Call it an insurance policy discount.
