I'm just in a different place - For me Quick represents failure an experiment, a bad decision. The draft comparison IMO is appropriate in that Kupp and Reynolds will require significant development prior to being able to have a considerable impact on an NFL offense. Sure they might be different than Quick in the long run but immediately? IDK... my gut tells me they will struggle. As will Everett and most rookies do particularly ones that are drafted in round 2 or later.
While its true McVay is a different coach I think for me I am just exhausted in trying to
find the positive in this football team. I no longer want to find it... I want to see it. This feels like a team that is really starting from the bottom. Young coach, significant roster turnover... My guess is it will be another 4 win season
One thing though. Did I say they won't do squat? I saw you referencing that a couple of times but I don't recall saying it... maybe it was in another thread or branch of this thread that I didn't read?

First of all, I think that comparisons between any of these guys and Quick are off-base. Quick wasn't just raw, he was, as it became evident, levels away from being ready to be an NFL receiver. And, frankly, I don't think he was smart enough to ever learn how. And he was timorous to boot.
Now, Salas and Pettis comparisons I get. They were non-div1 guys who had been very productive. Salas had a rep as a good hands guy who could run routes.
But I remember watching video interviews of both Salas and Pettis, and neither of them impressed me with their verbal description of their game and their approach to their game the way both Reynolds and Kupp have. Especially Kupp. I truly believe these two guys are a cut above that.
I think Pettis and Salas were a poor man's Reynolds and Kupp. Too poor.
Also, if you will recall, Salas actually WAS playing and making some plays his rookie year, but went down with an injury late in the year. Something happened to him after that. He was never the same and I don't know why, since I don't think the injury itself was that significant.
As far as the phrase "making an impact", that's open to interpretation. I certainly do NOT believe the Rams rookie receivers are going to take the NFL by storm. But I think they're going to play. And play a lot. And catch some balls for the Rams. If McVay had been happy with the receivers he inherited he wouldn't have gone out and gotten these guys.
I think McVay drafted guys that he intends to coach up and play NOW. Remember how Fisher was with certain defensive rookies? "Jenkins will be our starting corner." I think McDonald started at safety right away. Donald started after a few games. Alec Ogletree started right from the get-go. Fisher had the confidence to do that with defensive rookies, but didn't have a clue how to make it work with offensive rookies.
I think these guys have a LOT better chance to be immediate "impact" players on offense with McVay and his staff than any rookie receivers ever had with Fisher.
It largely depends on whether McVay did indeed make good draft choices, whether he can coach them up quickly, AND whether Goff is ready to get the ball to them. But I think that's the plan, and that McVay will push to make it happen. They're either going to have some success as rookies, or they're going to fall flat on their faces, because I think they WILL be put out there.
That's why I don't agree that they "won't do squat".
It's so good to talk football with you, my dear friend!
