Quarterback. If you believe he's truly "the guy" give up three first round picks and a couple of thirds. If he IS the guy, you win because you have your quarterback, the most important piece of the team. If he isn't the guy, then you screwed up. But who won't you be able to draft? Who cares? It doesn't matter if you have your guy. Do you do that for a WR? Probably not. A DE? Maybe but probably not. The only position you make a move like that is for a QB. Because without one, your chances of winning it all diminishes greatly.
But the thing is, it's never all or nothing in the NFL. There has never been a single draft that I can remember where there was
just this one guy, including QBs, and then the bottom falls out.
And it's a team sport. Yeah, the QB may be the most important, but he's nothing without a line to protect him, runners to hand off to, wideouts to throw to, etc. etc. There are eleven guys on the field for your team at a time, not just one. If it were just one, then, okay. I might consider a trade for a potential superstar who stands all on his own and needs no one else.
But that's not football.
So, again, which would you rather have? Goff, all alone? Or Wentz, plus Elliott, plus Donald, plus Martin, or some other combo of first round guys? Me? There is just no way on earth I sell the farm for one player. I take another QB, who may even be better down the road, plus those three other guys, who should make my team better still. And, again, it's a team sport. It's not golf or tennis, etc.
