I know that's not popular here. But, in my view, this is all about the mistaken idea that it's worth trading several potential starters for the
difference between one athlete and the next dozen or so. Those defending Chicago's move are trying to make it sound like they traded X number of picks for a whole QB. No, they moved up one slot, gave up a ransom to do so, when they could have just stayed put and chosen a dozen guys with similar impact. And in this case, in this particular draft, it's even worse, cuz no QB was given a grade as high as non-QB athletes until late in the 1st round. Some scouts were saying they wouldn't draft
any of the QBs in the 1st, period.
To build a competitive team, you can't exchange several starters or potential starters for the difference between available players who all will likely help your team along similar lines. If that difference isn't great enough to equal those extra starters, don't do it. You'll stay non-competitive for a long, long time if you do.
