Whitworth and Woods, though, are definitely upgrades as is McVay over Fisher and Phillips over Williams..
Team appears headed in a better direction. Will take their off season over the 49ers any day. But they're still only the 3rd best team in their division.
All that is true, but there's more here.
What is the effect of relocation on the equilibrium of any organization? I think its reasonable to believe that some of the crap that we saw last year was a result of a loss of inner balance due to the move.
McVay should be able to focus entirely on team performance and that should allow for some players taking a step up and maybe some pleasant surprises. I'm not saying that will happen but it's quite possible. One thing's for sure, it's highly unlikely that the offense won't improve measurably even if Goff isn't Superboy. That should be good for a couple of wins at least.
And while it's correct to call the Rams the 3rd best team in their division based on what we have seen, it's not a definite call because Goff is still an unknown quantity.
