I think blindly looking at it... he's got great value there.
I think if you measure him against the CBs, TEs, and rush LBs he loses by a large margin.
WR won't be bpa in this draft till the 4th round at least.
I’m typically a BPA guy but this may be one of those drafts where deviating from strict BPA may be warranted.
No matter how much love there is for great value 4th and 5th round type WRs, historical probabilities still apply. A 4th and 5th round draft pick have a 10-15% chance of ever starting.
Case in point is Mike Thomas. Last year there was so much love for him from national experts and board experts. People were practically giddy we got him for such great value in the 6th round. Same for Higbee where people were calling him a 2nd round value.
The jury is still out on how they will ultimately turn out but I think it’s very interesting that some of the same people who loved them are now calling for drafting more TE’s and WR’s after getting such great value on them last year. I love the draft but draft picks in general are probably overhyped.
If we want a starter, we need to draft them by the 3rd round. That’s what history says.
My vote says draft a WR by round 3.
I'm one of those that were overly optimistic about Higbee and Thomas, among others, dz.
But then again, weren't our O woes last year at least partially because of the Fisher O coaching fiasco? A chicken or the egg thing? I think so, anyway.
Virtually every O player took a step backward last year, other than Britt. Ironically, Britt was among those allowed to walk.
I was a big fan of those guys too 43. I didn't mean to make it sound like I wasn't. I still have optimism for them and definitely believe that Fisher’s philosophy and scheme were a big part of the problem.
But my overall point was, us fans get overly excited about draft picks. When the reality is, 4th thru 7th usually don’t amount to much and even if they will, it’s typically 3-4 years down the road.
I would like more of an immediate contributor at WR so we’d need to draft one early. And even that’s no guarantee.
