He never really practiced at center. That was one of those legends that took off. What happened is, when the rookies came in after the draft, in order to get 5 guys lined up, he took the center spot. That was all without pads. Then after that, to my recollection, he never lined up at center again. So he never really practiced at center. But it was a story that got legs anyway.
