Remember after RG3s stellar first year that Snyder turned him into a rock star? RG3 hung out with Synder at big events? Snyder elevated RG3 to the level of untouchable, and probably uncoachable.
That is exactly what Fisher did with Gurly. He turned him into a rock star. Wouldn't let him practice or play in the preseason. Made him the most important player on the team because in Fisher's obsolete mindset, all offense goes through the running back.
Hopefully McVay lays down the law. Makes it clear that Gurly will attend the workouts, will gain some weight back, and tell him that he is NOT the Rams starting RB. He will have to compete for that.
In fact, depending on how the draft goes, I'd spend as high as a 4th round pick for a RB to add to the competition.
But don't get me wrong. Not every player is wired to succumb to the prima dona Hollywood celebrity as Gurly did. And I'd say it is no more than 50/50 that he can be saved. He will have to undergo a sincere attitude change and devote himself to his football career. And if the fans and coaches saw his malingering so did his teammates (and some of the Oline said as much publicly).
McVay is said to be the ultimate motivator. He has his work cut out for him in both Gurly and GRob.
