Anyone who has ever had to be in a similar situation knows that to say the name is a great tool to help you remember the person's name. It also let's that person know that you have connected with them on a personal level.

Sociability and communication are strategies.

I know a lot of deeply empathetic, perceptive, people-loving shy people who can't communicate.

I also know a lot of shrewd ambitious people who know how to use communication skills to accomplish goals.

It has nothing to do with sincerity either way. It's a practical approach to things.
