As I recall, Spags failed miserably at hiring good asst coaches. Just doomed him.
Don't know if it was the lateness of his hire and the best ones were already gone, or what.
Linehan, I don't recall. But I doubt that he was able to hire top tier asst coaches, either.
So far, Sean has hired extreme top tier DC and ST coordinators.
I'm repeating myself, but I am certain that any and all D asst coaches that will be hired will be with the approval of Wade Phillips. So I'm not worried on that score. Wade will attract top tier guys and will approve only good fits. No worries on the D hires for me.
I think Sean will attract top tier asst coaches for his O, as well. Unfortunately, several that he's wanted to interview are currently under contract and their current teams are not allowing interviews. But he's made clear in his pressers how he values teachers in his assistants, so I'm sure he will keep trying until he gets his men.
BTW, for those teams refusing interviews now? What goes around, comes around. Meaning, there will come a time when those teams will come a calling to the Rams needing permission to interview an assistant coach. Or perhaps another team will choose to slam the door in their face after seeing this "chickenstuff" behavior. A karma thing? But, I digress...
I am very interested to learn just who will be Sean's new OL coach. By far my most critical area of interest..
