you say quite i few...i fully acknowledge the fact that a number of posters did not like the fisher hire...but outside this board i think you will be hard pressed to find anybody who said it was not good for the rams.
i dont recall the other candidates at the time but thats irrelevant. you can only choose who is recommended or identified and available. Should they NOT hire a coach because they dont like the candidates? what alternative was there?
miami being involved had nothing to do with the perceived value of fisher. he was the number 1 target from day 1. dungy and cower (if i recall) would have been up there too if they wanted to come back.
please....nobody KNEW that the rams were doomed under fisher. just like nobody KNOWS if the next coach will be successful. i mean jeez...you got a 50/50 shot of being right either way. and it is monday morning quarterbacking for most poster because they are viewing the situation with the benefit of hindsight. at the time, the hire made a ton of sense. but for those few who disliked the fisher hire...give yourself a pat on the back. you were right. My question to those who "knew" fisher was the wrong guy, who would you hire now?

And even more when he hired Brian Schottenheimer as his OC!
And that means there`s no Monday morning QB.
As I posted in another thread yesterday:
Yes, most of the media and some in the NFL circles did think of the Fisher hiring as a victory for the Rams, but don't you think anything would have been a victory compared to what they had with Devaney and Spags? I mean they were 2-14 just before Fisher was hired and two seasons prior to that 1-15.
Also, remember that there weren't a whole lot of big name head coaches interested at the time and I don't remember many hot coordinator names either.
And Miami was the team that created the bidding war for Fisher, so when the Rams finally won him over because Miami was not willing to give him full control and the Rams QB situation looked better at the time, it appeared that the Rams won the grand prize by beating out Miami and getting their guy. The hype was all built up and most perceived that as a big victory for the Rams at the time. But like I said earlier, there were some here that didn't like the move one bit. Personally I was originally neutral, because I knew the Rams would play pretty good defense under Fisher, but hated the Fisher hiring once he hired Schotty as his OC. I wasn't the only one here by any means, but MANY of us knew the offense was doomed from day 1! And that's no Monday morning QB talk!
