I preferred keeping Johnson to Jenkins. Not that I didn't like him but his inconsistency for 4 years was maddening. And the fact is Johnson graded out as the more consistent CB by a pretty good margin. Jenkins had a very good year. Good for him.
He signed essentially a three-year, $40.0M deal (they can let him go pretty painlessly after that). His cap # the next two years escalates to $15M and $13M. Maybe he'll be worth that, we'll see. In the meantime we get the 99th or 100th pick in the Draft next April for him.
I'd have paid McLeod, personally (who gets $19M in the first 3 years of his deal). Of course I also am pleased with what Alexander has become.
Very well said, 93.
I might add that Ram CB play this year has not operated in a vacuum. Meaning, that it has suffered as a result of declining front 4 play. Specifically, at DE. Hayes has somewhat disappointed, but Quinn's play has fallen off the cliff. He's a mere shadow of himself, as we all know.
This GW defense is designed around pressure up front, and we ain't getting enough. The ripple effects are considerable and increased stress on the CB's playing opposite TruJo are not the least of them. IOW, Jenkins would have found it to be more challenging to play CB here this year.
Not to take anything away from Jenkins' play with the Giants, mind you. Good for him.
But I think DE with our 2nd rounder makes a ton of sense right now. We just can't count on Quinn any longer, fellas.
