1. John Harbaugh.........Why? He will bring stability and credibility to the franchise. Without the abrasiveness his brother brings.
2. Jon Gruden.......Why? He would be the perfect HC for Goff to develop and he will get a great staff around him.
3. David Shaw.....Why? No retread coach.....This guy would be a very solid choice.
4. Jim Harbaugh.........If you want a winner..........Go get him.........But, be ready for ANYTHING!!!!!
Well, of course we're all just spitballing at this point, oldschool, but here is my response.
John Harbaugh. Hell yeah! If he's available, that is. No risk. A no brainer.
Gruden. Nope. I think he's a diva and he's been out of coaching for 10 years. In fact, the only thing going for him is his name recognition. Not a fan of Gruden as a HC candidate.
Shaw. Would be a fine choice, but I seriously doubt that he would be interested. If he were the pick, I see steady and consistent results but I do not see the promised land potential that I crave. Others seem to have higher ceilings than Shaw, in my mind.
Jim Harbaugh. He's probably not interested. Too happy at Michigan. But if he COULD be lured, I would be willing to put up with his antics because I'm certain that he would produce immediate winning results. I mean, year one playoff winning results.
Here are a few that I would like to see interviewed, and in no particular order.
Chris Petersen. My current favorite, TBH. This guy is gonna be a tremendous HC some day for some NFL team. Mark my words. I hope that it's the Rams.
Nick Saban. Don't know if he has interest. Rumored to be interested in the Giant job last year, though. Think his record and reputation speaks for itself. Would do a helluva job, IMO.
Urban Meyer. Don't know if he has an interest either. But I think he would be terrific if he came onboard.
All 3 are proven HC's at the highest level. That's priceless, IMO.
All 3 understand all 3 phases of team play.
All 3 are consistent winners, to say the least.
All 3 have demonstrated the ability to get the very most out of their players, something that the Rams have sorely lacked for 5 years.
When was the last time we saw any of these guys get outcoached for a single game, much less for a season?
Kyle Shanahan and Josh McDaniels? Well, both appear to be brilliant OC's, an area that has been weak on the Rams. So we know that they can improve the O, but can they take that next step up and be an actual HC? Maybe, maybe not. And there are some maturity questions circling both. So there is that. Are we willing to take that risk? I see boom or bust with either choice.
Just my current opinions from my recliner, of course.
I'll say this. The Rams need to get the GM and HC decisions right. And I do mean BOTH decisions. There is NO room for error if they wish to overcome their stumbling start this year in LA.
Can't wait to see how this works out.
